A photo is worth 1,000 words, but my experience is indescribable.

As promised, I have finally put together another entry that tells you a little bit about what I have been doing since New Year’s Eve (http://heather-elwell.com/2015/01/04/welcome-to-2015-but-first-what-happened-last-month/).

I’ve been so busy out and about that I wish I had the time to update everyday, instead that’s what my journal is for. Everyday has been an adventure and the amount of hard work I put in to become Miss Maine USA has helped me prepare for this reign. You really can do anything you put your mind to! Lesson 1 learned.

Since I last left off I was invited the weekend after New Years to attend a Bridal Expo in Portland, ME modeling gowns for 125 Bridal. Miss Maine United States, Katherine Meservier, was also at the event with me. Not to mention my cute roommate, Henry and his godmother Taylor Frame! The infatuation and my undying obsession with Henry is real, he is just the cutest!

The next weekend was followed by another Bridal event, but this time it was a fun Fashion Show! We got to walk the runway and meet people from all over New England. One of my new friends from the Miss Maine USA pageant this past year, Katherine Ambrose, came along for ride along with Miss Maine United States, Katherine Meservier – YES, they have the same name, but are equally awesome in their own way! Miss Maine Teen USA 2011, Alexis Mcilwain also came to model along with us for a fun-filled afternoon.

After departing the Bridal show, we all made our way to Manchester, New Hampshire to see our two new Sister queens get crowned. Sam Poirier won Miss New Hampshire USA 2015, after also competing for many years and Ellie Lathram won Miss New Hampshire Teen USA 2015. I’m so ecstatic to have two other great girls join our pageant family! The states of Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire are finally complete and the preparation for Miss USA and Miss Teen USA has begun!

January 25th marked the date for the Miss Universe 2015 pageant, which was an incredible experience! Some of the best parts of my trip included meeting most of the girls who will be competing for the Miss USA 2015 title with me this coming summer, and enjoying the warmth of sunny South Florida! After meeting with my dearest friends Michael Galanes and Frank Arcidiacono and filling my wardrobe with fantastic WowWear Dresses, it was on to the next event. On Saturday night we attended the Pageant Smart Welcome Party at the home of Jorge & Rick. What a spread! Paella, dancing, and LOTS of pageant girls and old friends 🙂 The following evening my parents, aunt and I got all dressed up for the world famous, Miss Universe pageant. What a dream it would be to be competing on that stage next year 😉 Miss Colombia took home the crown and our very own Miss USA, Nia Sanchez, placed 1st runner up.

One might find it hard to believe, but with all of the massive amounts of snow New England (and now the rest of the world) has been having, my flight was cancelled for four days! Luckily, I had my work laptop so that I could catch a few rays while keeping up with clients. In the midst of it all, I was blessed to have the opportunity to shoot with my favorite photographer, Benizo. I did a post a few weeks ago showcasing a “Behind the Scenes” video (http://heather-elwell.com/2015/01/31/when-maine-gives-you-a-blizzard-you-make-magic-at-a-photo-shoot/) that I shot and edited throughout my fun-filled day with Benizo and Bianca C (who did my fantastic hair and makeup).

When I finally made it home, I was happy that I didn’t get to miss my cousin, Maggie Elwell’s, JROTC show at Lewiston Middle School. They hosted a comedy performance with Joe Trammel and I got to speak to all of the guests who came out in support of the program. I was quite honored to have met some fantastic individuals who are achieving great things in their lives!

Well, that’s it for the January 2015 recap! I have many more fun and exciting events to update you on, but I’ll save it all for another post. Again, thank you ALL for the endless support and riding along with me on this journey. The best is yet to come! Now, I better get packing for NYC!
