Hi Everyone! You know what happens when you neglect your website for almost 6 months? Well, you train for a pageant and then your life changes when they announce you as the new Miss Maine USA 2015! It almost sounds crazy to say it out loud. I still pinch myself everyday because for a majority of my life I have been prepping to become a state titleholder and go on to compete at Miss USA. Ladies and gentlemen, that is now my reality and is a testament to my faith and hard work. It seems almost silly, but you can absolutely achieve anything if you put your mind to it. The key is to always remain true to who you are!
Since I became Miss Maine USA 2015 I have had the opportunity to attend many events all over the beautiful state of Maine. During the first week of my reign I had an official photo shoot with my sister queen Skyler Gaudette, Miss Maine Teen USA (we are practically look alike sisters), at Todd Ward Studios. Jessica Candage (http://jessicacmua.com/index2.php) did a fantastic job on my hair and makeup and I’m super pumped that I get to work with her all year and in preparation for the Miss USA pageant. Richard of Elyse Jewlers was there to fit us with the most remarkable jewlery pieces to wear. I was wearing 6 carat diamonds in each ear. A girl can dream! I’ll have more official photos to post very soon.
Later that week Skyler and I went to our first appearance in Skowhegan, Maine for the annual Holiday Stroll complete with 17 degree weather, candy canes and delicious whoopie pies. (Yes, I absolutely indulged and that chocolatey goodness was worth it).
Not even a week later and I was up in Bangor, Maine to meet Governor LePage and appear as a guest on Dan Cashman’s The Nite Show, which aired on December 20th. I had the pleasure of playing one of my seven instruments on the show. Please watch the video below and subscribe to my YouTube Channel (heathermelwell) where I will be posting numerous videos throughout the year.
Up next was one of my favorite events with my neighboring sister queens, Miss Massachusetts USA and Miss Massachusetts Teen USA in Boston at the Best Buddies Gala. We had the privilege to meet numerous people and had a wonderful evening, which ended with a wonderful Italian dinner in the North End with our directors and sponsors! I’m sure going to miss having Chicken Parmesan until after Miss USA.
Most recently, I was humbled to be invited to host the Timeless Synergy James Bond New Year’s Eve party in Boston, MA on December 31st. It was a long day filled with fun as I had the chance to meet with the spectacular Neil Gannon and Rita (official Hair and Makeup sponsors) in order to get ready for the big night! Another big thank you goes out to my longtime friend, Jay Bishop, who helped me pick the perfect gown from 125 Bridal in Plaistow, New Hampshire. Check out the Youtube video recap to see the highlights from the big day.
I can’t wait to share the rest of my year with you all! I’m so humbled and ecstatic about this opportunity and I’m happy to have you all along for the ride. Please feel free to comment and reach out to me if there is anything that you would like me to blog about or any tips you want me to share.
With all of my love,
Miss Maine USA 2015
